Nintendo Wii Review
The Nintendo Wii is one of those games consoles which should suit just about anyone. Experienced gamers will benefit from a build quality and ease of use which is rarely matched, while newcomers will find the ease with which they can get the machine up and running to be a breath of fresh air. The machine comes with a remote which, you will be relieved to know, has been designed and built extremely well, and a pair of alkaline batteries to get you quickly started. There is also a sensor bar which allows you to point the remote at the TV rather than the machine itself.
There are only a few simple settings to get right before you start, and if you have a wireless network the job can be done in no time. If you don't, you will need to use a USB connector. As soon as you have the Nintendo Wii up and running, you will be impressed with the build quality and operation of the machine. It runs with very little noise and gives off hardly any excess heat. If you are concerned about the appearance of a machine which you bring in to your living room, then the Wii makes a perfect choice as it clearly leads the field in aesthetics.
The remote is obviously critically important, especially with games which require a fast and continuous response. The Wii remote is one of the best you will find, and will not give you any problems even if it is ten metres or more away from the TV and the sensor bar. Even someone completely new to gaming, or someone who is used to a different machine, will find the learning curve to be exceptionally short. Battery consumption is the only possible concern. Although the average life of standard batteries is 35 hours, this can be reduced to as little as 15 with some high power games.
An option is to use Ni-MH batteries, which will need to be of high quality to maintain the needed consistent power. The Wii has some features you will probably never use such as the ability to make slides and add music to them, but it also has a shopping channel which will let you build up your collection of games quickly and easily. Even if you are on the tightest of budgets, there is no need to worry, as the bundled Wii Sports game is of exceptional quality. It includes boxing, tennis, golf, baseball and bowling.
The Nintendo Wii will prove to be a great buy for anyone who is looking for solid quality at a very reasonable price. You get a great start with the bundled game, and there are many others you can add to it. Choose your batteries wisely, and you should have no operational problems. Provided you are not looking for the most amazing graphical experience ever, you should get many hours of satisfaction from your Nintendo Wii.
